What can Acupuncture do?

The Chinese system of acupuncture is based on over 5,000 years of observing energy flow in the body. The energy channels, or "meridians" as they are called, have many points of access, where energy can be encouraged to flow faster or slower, or energy can be gathered or released. This is accomplished by inserting a very, very thin needle into the point. Many times, patients do not feel the needles enter.

Research has shown that acupuncture helps many conditions. The World Health Organization recommends acupuncture for over 40 conditions such as respiratory and urinary infections, gastrointestinal problems, high blood pressure, hormonal problems, painful muscles and joints, headaches, sleep problems, and anxiety and depression. One of the best things about acupuncture is that it can actually be used to treat many conditions simultaneously.

Acupuncture facilitates the body's natural healing ability by increasing circulation, raising the pain threshold and stimulating the immune system. Most patients (about 85% according to research) notice a positive change within the first few treatments. Dr. Polley holds post-graduate certifications in Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation and Acupuncture Addiction Treatment. Special interests include treatment for anxiety, depression, and pain.

During your one hour treatment, you will have acupuncture on the front and back of your body, and end with a 5 minute massage. Patients are supplied with shorts and top, and all treatments are in a private room with a heated table. We use premium Japanese needles for added patient comfort.

This ancient practice dates back thousands of years. In traditional Chinese medicine, cupping is a method of applying acupressure by creating a vacuum on the patient's skin to dispel stagnation in the blood and lymph fluid, thereby improving qi flow.  Used especially to treat respiratory diseases such as the common cold, pneumonia and bronchitis, cupping is also helpful for  back, neck, shoulder and other musculoskeletal pain. Cupping can be added to your treatment for no extra cost, and is very popular among our acupuncture patients. We ask that  if you wish to have a cupping treatment, please let us know when you schedule your appointment.
